Fabric 1.16 Client Mod Guide (updated)

Post by ToeMan_ »

This is a guide for installing useful client mods for Minecraft. Guide was created with Fabric 1.16.4 in mind. Please DM me with any requested additional mods or edits to this guide.

Fabric Installation
Fabric is used to power many Minecraft client mods. Fabric is not the same thing as Forge and the two are not compatible with each other.

Download and run the latest Fabric Windows/.EXE installer from Fabric's Website. Current tested installer version is 0.6.1.51.
If you attempt to run the installer and it refuses to run based on your Java version, download and run the latest Java version from Java's Website than re-run the Fabric installer file.

All the default installer configuration on the window that appears should be correct, but just verify that your Minecraft version is correct. Make sure the “Create Profile” box is checked. Only change the install path if you know your Minecraft installations to be stored somewhere other than the default location.

Click the small “Install” button and a “Done” message above the button should appear almost instantly.
There should now be an additional Installation/Profile inside the Minecraft Launcher to run Minecraft with Fabric.

If you didn't have forge, fabric, rift, or other similar mod installers, the installer will have created a “Mods” folder within the “.minecraft” folder to use compatible Fabric client mods. If you already had one of these, you can simply plop your new fabric mods into the current Mods folder. To access this folder, type %appdata% into the Windows search bar in the bottom left of your computer screen and hit enter. Navigate to "roaming" > ".minecraft" > "mods"

Don’t stop there. Read this part -- Dependencies

This following mod is a dependency for a vast majority of the mods available for Fabric. Just trust me, you need it.

Fabric API - It’s important. I won’t bore you with why.
Navigate to this Curseforge page.
Download the Main/Recommended file for 1.16.4. At the time of this guide the recommended and tested version was Fabric API 0.29.3.

MaLiLib Library - Dependency for Litematica mod(which is like schematica)
Go to this Curseforge page.
Download the most recent version of the mod for Fabric 1.16.4(not forge). Tested on “malilib-fabric-1.16.4-0.10.0-dev.21+arne.2.jar”

Useful Mods for Fabric

These mods below get put into the “Mods” folder. If you are unsure where the “Mods” folder is or get errors about missing dependencies, look at the Fabric Installation section of this guide.

Mod Menu - Unlike forge, Fabric does not have a built-in menu for configuring mod settings or options. This mod gives you that menu.
Navigate to this Curseforge page.
Download the most recent/recommended version of the mod for 1.16.4 Fabric. Tested on version 1.14.13 build 19.

World Edit CUI - Displays your current WE selection (made with wand, //pos1 //pos2, or //hpos1 //hpos2 commands)
At the time this guide was made, the only release of this for 1.16.2 Fabric is on GitHub. (this still works on fabric 1.16.4) For those not familiar with downloading packages from GitHub, here are some instructions. Go to this GitHub page.
Expand the “Assets” section if it isn’t already. Click the “WorldEditCUI-1.16.2+01.jar” blue link to download the file.

Litematica - Replacement for schematica. Blueprint mod for builds. Unfortunately it doesn’t have an auto build or printer mode yet.
See above MaLiLib dependency. This mod is still in beta and isn’t 100% stable yet.
Go to this Curseforge page.
Download the latest/recommended version of the mod for 1.16.4 Fabric. Tested on version 1.16.4-0.0.0-dev.20201103.184101

Light Overlay – displays the light level on individual blocks so you can locate areas mobs will spawn. Extremely useful.
Go to this Curseforge page.
Download the latest/recommended version of the mod for 1.16.4 Fabric (will probably say Forge/Fabric) Tested on version 5.6.1

VoxelMap - Displays a minimap in the corner of your screen. Radar and cave mode are against the rules so make sure they are both disabled.
Go to this Curseforge page.
Download the latest/recommended version of the mod for 1.16.4 Fabric (NOT forge, rift, or liteloader). Tested on version 1.10.14

Sodium - (replacement for Optifine) Will improve most people's FPS and lag by a great deal. In-depth graphic control options.
Go to this Curseforge page. Click the blue “Preview versions” button at the top of the page. Download the latest/recommended version of the mod for 1.16.4. Tested on version 1.16.3-0.1.0

Bumping this guide as it is pretty relevant for people preparing for CV7 being on 1.16.4 :)
