I think so, I'm pretty sure the PVP mode that's on the legacy editions of Minecraft is that type of game, but I have so many memories of playing PVP with random people online on my Wii U. I thought of a way the game could work too. So maybe it would be like the bedwars were once you get enough people you can start, otherwise, it could be like the hosted spleef. Players would spawn around a little structure with chests in the middle of the map, then about 5 seconds or so PVP would be enabled. Random items will be in chests scattered around the map, and the ender chests in the middle will reload every so often. Once you die, you'll be out forever, which is why I personally think that having staff run it like spleef would be a good idea.
