⭐CVC + Highway Changes⭐

Post by Lime »

Hey everyone, I would like to address some ideas I had for changes to certain official structures around CV, more specifically, the highways and CVC.

1. CVC
I think it would be great to have a taller height limit next map in CVC - I have looked at CV5 + CV4, the city looks really cool having loads of tall buildings, and also the variation in size - So I think it would be nice to have at least a bit higher to build in CVC - And I do understand why the height limit could have been changed, all of the lag stuff etc.

Although mainly a commercial area, I think there should be some more areas in CV, eg smaller plots or official staff-run apartment buildings to encourage some people to also possibly live in CVC, obviously at a higher price than drop towns, as an alternative place to live - even if it is just a range of smaller plots in a nice suburban-ish decorated area in a corner or something.

2. Highways
I love the highway in CV6 and think that that sort of design, at least style and layout should be kept - But my little issue here is with the NBZ around it. I saw in CV5 and CV4 that there were lift signs down, and people could have that sign going into a village, or something. That could also work with this style of highway in CV6 aka one on the ground. I think it would be really nice to be able to build right up to the railway to make paths, even custom stations on the edge - and yes, I think the region obviously inside the railway etc should be kept - I just mean the removal of the large NBZ around the edge of it. I also think that instead of just having 3, it would be nice to bring back the CV5/4 plan of the railway, or at least 4 highways going outwards. And a little fun idea, if the CV5/4 idea was to be brought back, on the corners where 2 or 3 rails would meet, it would be nice to have larger, decorated stations, possibly even little shop chests for sale on a little market bench - and even just generally decorated stations no matter the size :p even if it's just a little bench or station counter

I also think the top of the highway where the rails are should be open - so people could just get out and jump down or fly off.

Another interesting idea, which probably wouldn't be implemented, although I will still say it - Underground railroads. I think this would be cool for people wanting to find a place to mine and to be able to go back to that place easily.

Thanks for listening to my ideas, and I hope at least one could be looked into for the future and CV7.

1. CVC
I can say right now that taller CVC regions is off the board. They were indeed reduced as one of the many efforts made to help reduce CVC lag this map, and as we all know, lag is still a huge issue for a number of players. You can safely assume that if CVC region heights change for CV7, it will be in the other direction. Nobody likes restrictions, but players also don't like not being able to go to spawn, sooo. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That doesn't mean a collection of tall skyscrapers isn't an option for a player town, though.

As to your other ideas, similar has been tossed around staff chat as well, and you're likely to see some CVC changes in regards to affordable plots and residential options by next map.

2. Highways
Keep in mind that if there was no NBZ region at all around the highways, they are able to be blocked off, flooded with lava or water, etc. as well. A certain amount of NBZ is necessary to keep the highways accessible and safe. The reason it was brought out of the sky was because you could not get mounts or other mobs onto the skyway, making it very difficult to traverse the map with them. It was also very annoying only being able to get on or off it at certain points spaced over the map. We miss the skyways though, too, for a variety of reasons, and we will be seeing what we can do to try to bring the best of both together for the next map.

Rentable chests were not exactly a huge hit in CVC this map, so I am not sure the same premise far out at the ends of highways would work better, personally. Other decor would certainly be a possibility though.

I agree underground server railroads are unlikely, I don't really see what advantage or need there is for this to be a server build versus player built. :3

Hmm, maybe if there was a way to change the NBZ to not allow things like liquids and other stuff that could overflow, but allow building?

Another idea too, again a fun one, is another layer, or at least area of the skyway where people could travel by boat and ice, would be interesting :p

Lime, the boat/ice thing was asked last map/forums. I think it was a 'thinking about it' issue.
And getting the sky/ground/subway roads right, has been an ongoing issue for many years.
Map 3 had a player made subway... this I didn't know about until I downloaded the map and went exploring.
Map 4 had a skyway. You can check it out in hub/specials.
Same with map 5, but this one was changed some from player input. Like you are doing here.
Map 6 was a compromise between the sky and ground. Where because of the 'not able to transverse' animals along the skyway, it was placed on the ground.
As for the no NBZ I think a compromise could come in handy here. How about a small NBZ with flat land in the NBZ and downward slopes from it say 2 blocks from the NBZ. So no one can build but you can still make a road and not get water/lava'd. So if lava was placed it could be removed and flow away from the road.
