so, this isn't really a feature request but a request for a rule change, as you can see by the subject
so i'll go over why i think this should be changed

(please dont take anything i say in this offensive, i dont mean it that way if it comes across that way)

advertising isnt the same as mentioning a server, "EVERYONE JOIN CUBEVILLE" is obviously advertising, saying "oh yeah like a family friendly server like cubeville?" is "mentioning", i just want to put those in place

i feel as though we should be allowed to mention servers, i, in fact, own a server (not sending ip or name, dont worry), and i am fine with allowing people to mention servers. it's a pretty active server with a fair amount of players, and there has never been a problem with it

the server is part of a community, a community of servers. every server should obviously have respect, and i feel as though not mentioning servers, in the NICEST way possible, dont take what i say offensive, it's just the best way i can put it, is a bit scummy.
the reason i think that is because it feels as though you are putting down other servers, like you want more players even if there are other great servers other people should try, obviously people shouldn't be moving players to other servers and i doubt mentioning a server would do that

there have been times where a VERY VERY popular family friendly server has been mentioned, like a server that i'm very certain the staff have heard about, and the person has gotten in trouble.

basically, i think this rule should be allowed, to mention, but not advertise. it makes it difficult to communicate with other players sometimes, sometimes people slip up and then they just feel bad

this is my opinion and it might differ from other's opinions, it might not make sense, it might be stupid, i dont really know, if theres any points that i missed lmk, bye!

This rule was actually changed not long ago to make things clearer with the blanket ban on naming other servers, because the rule was more vague about not advertising, and it was interpreted differently by different players. The blanket ban on naming servers makes things clear for all players understanding the rules, and all staff enforcing the rules, and so everyone is treated fairly.

You'll find that the majority of public servers request that you don't talk about or advertise other servers because, whilst we're all part of the Minecraft community, we're also all competing for the same players. We're not putting down other servers or being scummy, we're just asking that while you're playing on Cubeville, you don't talk about other servers. The occasional slipup isn't going to be a major issue, we're not banning players for accidentally saying the name of another server. But I don't think it is unreasonable to ask that players don't talk about other servers whilst playing on ours.
