Recently there have been a few questions regarding the rules of the nether when it comes to player traps and behavior relating to them. The staff team has discussed the various concerns and support players have expressed on the topic, and the SA team has reached some conclusions we think will ensure player awareness of the risks involved when entering the nether whilst keep the nether the thrilling and wild place it has been enjoyed as on CV.
The poll asking players if they would like traps to continue to be allowed in the nether showed that most players prefer we do not change that stance, by a pretty fair margin. Risk can be part of what makes reward so satisfying, and part of what makes the nether fun and interesting. The majority of people seem to enjoy the looser rules of the nether and would like to see that continue. This is also in line with the general staff feelings surrounding the subject, so we do not see a need nor the desire on most players' part to change it. Those of you who had worries - we understand and you are not unheard. These are the steps we've taken to address concerns:
1.) While building traps away from the spawn area is allowed in the nether, luring people into them (either by word or action,) is not. This was previously unclear, the nether rules did not explicitly state anything on the matter. For clarity and consistency we have amended the nether rules to include this directive:
Do not purposefully lure players into traps, be it by word or by action, your trap or anyone else's.
2.) To make sure players coming to the nether are not unaware of the world's rule set and know what it is, a chat message has been added to warn arrivals of danger and provide the rule command:
Use /nether to see the list of rules that apply in the nether. You are not safe here!
Lastly, I would like to address what family-friendly means in terms of our server. Some have felt that allowing traps in the nether is counter to our family-friendly policy on CV - this is not the case. Family-friendly means we provide a play environment free from things like inappropriate language or chat topics, hate speech, and harassment to you as a person. You can play knowing that trolls and non-family-friendly chat will be dealt with and / or removed by staff. Game danger to your player character is not related to the family-friendly nature or intent of our server. There are many dangers posed to your character in-game from both mobs and environment, as a survival based server it is not the purpose of our staff nor the rules to prevent all forms of these types of danger.
Hopefully these measures help make things clear and more comfortable for everyone, just remember to play it safe when visiting the nether. :)
