[Guide] SK Chest Shops

Post by WallyDonkey »

Have you ever been to a shop where you can buy and sell items automatically by just right clicking a sign? With Cubeville's new Shopkeeper rank, you can make your very own automated shops just like these you've used! Once you have all the requirements listed below you're ready to start making your own automated chest shops.

Requirements
  • Shopkeeper rank
    One chest
    One sign
    One block of any material
Once you have everything list above you can get started. The first and simplest step of this tutorial is to set up your chest wherever you want the automated shop to be located. There must be a block located above and behind it, as shown in the picture below.

A block directly behind the chest shop is not required. The setup shown below will work.

Now that you have the structure for your shop set up, it's time to set up your shop. Now, place the sign on the block that is above the chest. However, this blank sign won't do anything! The syntax for what need to write on the sign to make it work is as follows

Image

In this example, I'll be making a diamond shop. Once I've placed my diamond in the chest I am ready to write the sign to automate the trade process. First, I will sell 1 diamond for 10 cubes, and buy 1 diamond for 4 cubes. To do this, I write the following

Image

As you can see, the second line has the number 1, meaning my shop will buy and sell in quantities of 1. The second line says 10:4. The first number (10) is how much my shop sells the 1 diamond for. Anyone who right clicks the sign in buy mode will automatically transfer 10 cubes to me and receive a diamond as long as the chest is stocked and they have enough cubes. The second number (4) is the price I will pay users for diamonds. This means that if a user is in sell mode and right clicks my sign with a diamond in their inventory, the diamond will be transferred to my chest and they will receive 4 cubes (as long as my account has enough money for the transfer)

Once your shop is created successfully, you will receive a message and your sign will adjust itself as seen in the screenshot below. If you do not receive this message, the syntax or placement of your sign was most likely incorrect. Make a thread on the forums or ask me in game if you run into this problem. As you can see, your chest is also automatically protected for you when you set up a shop.

Using automated shops, you also have the ability to make buy-only or sell-only shops. In order to do this, all you need to do is set the corresponding price to 0 on your sign. To make a shop that only sells items, you would put 0 as your second number to disable users selling items to you, as seen in the screenshot below. On the other hand, if you set the first number to 0, nobody will be able to buy items, they will only be able to sell them to you.

Image

Last but not least is the /iteminfo command. If you ever run into an issue with your shop not creating itself, you may be using an invalid item name on the last line of your sign. To view the name you should write on the sign, type /iteminfo while holding the item you wish to sell. As seen in the screenshot below, this will display the item name you should write on your sign to sell it in a chest shop.

That is all for now, I hope this tutorial helps out all our new Shopkeepers! If you have any questions or issues setting up a shop, PM me on the forums or ingame!
