So as most people know, discord has recently released many new options and features for server customisation. I know some other posts have mentioned aspects of some of this before, but I wanted to put forward a more general idea.
I think it would be really good for CV and for CV's discord if we can utilise some of these new features; more people have switched from using forum here to using discord these days, so I think it would be really useful for CV to incorporate some of this.
First of all, on discord you can now enable your server as a 'community server'. Unlike a traditional server intended for groups of friends, this is meant for larger servers like CV's that are working with a community of people. If you enable community, a new range of channel types will also be unlocked.
As you can see in this image above, Stage, Forum, and Announcement channels can now be made too. Announcement could be useful for streamlining our announcements go and for some other little extras, but the main one I want to focus on is forums. With this, a post-based system can be used for certain channels, and I personally think that for some of the channels we already have, this could work better.
While in my opinion, I think channels like Kitchen Sink, Tech Talk, Videogames, Memes, and General work best as traditional channels, I think that some others like Market, Travel, Projects, Kitchen Table, and Arts might work better on a post based system. I think for some things, like posting an advert, a piece of art, or some food you've made, this could work quite a bit better than the standard system. One reason for this is the ability to comment on posts - If you've posted something and then someone else posts something after, it won't just get buried - This enables multiple conversations to go on at once on a channel, and for people to be able to share what they want without it getting covered up after a while.
